Tanishaa Mukerji Slams Critics Over India Debate Says There Is a War for Your Mindset

Bollywood actress Tanishaa Mukerji has sparked a debate on social media after posting a strongly worded message criticising what she described as the colonial mindset of some well-educated Indians who, according to her, look down on their own country while admiring the West. The actress, known for her work in Hindi films and reality television, took to X to express her frustration with people she believes dismiss India's progress while questioning those who support the government. Her remarks touched on nationalism, media influence, political differences and the importance of independent thinking, bringing a sharp tone to an already contentious public conversation.

In her post, Tanishaa specifically called out what she described as a lingering British influence among certain sections of India's educated elite. She argued that supporting the government should not automatically lead to people being dismissed as uneducated or labelled andhbhakts. At the same time, she questioned why individuals who criticise the government while supporting groups or narratives originating abroad are sometimes considered progressive or woke. The actress also acknowledged that India continues to face several challenges, but maintained that progress takes time and urged people to look at how the country has developed over the past decade.

Tanishaa did not hold back in her message, writing, “I am truly shocked by the blind hate of some supposedly well educated elitist Hindus that live with a complete British hangover ! If u love london and America so much. Pls leave ! We don’t want u here trying to put us down! Yes there are a lot of problems but it takes time and look where we have reached in the last 10 years. ! If we support our govt we are #andhbhakts and uneducated. But if we support factions trying to destroy this country from America and Germany we are cool and woke ! There is a war for ur mindset. Ur attention and ur thoughts. But pls don’t be so influenced by media that you refuse to use ur own common sense! Things should be logical factual. And a society ruled by laws is the way we stay safe.”

Her comments come amid wider political discussions around voter list revisions, with critics protesting and demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner over allegations that the changes favour the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The controversy has generated debate over electoral processes, political accountability and the credibility of institutions. Separately, discussions around Elon Musk's Starlink and its proposed entry into India have also attracted public attention. While Tanishaa's post does not explicitly spell out every issue prompting her remarks, the broader political climate provides context for the questions she raises about foreign influence, public opinion and how people assess developments in India.

A central theme of Tanishaa's message is her call for people to think independently rather than accept every narrative presented by the media or circulating online. She argued that opinions should be based on logic and facts, urging people not to allow outside influences to shape their understanding without questioning the information they receive. Her reference to a “war” over people's mindsets, attention and thoughts reflects her concern that public opinion is increasingly contested in a media environment where political arguments can quickly become personal. She also emphasised the importance of a society governed by laws, presenting the rule of law as essential to public safety.

Tanishaa Mukerji is an Indian actress and producer who belongs to the well-known Mukherjee-Samarth family. She is the daughter of filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee and veteran actor Tanuja, and the younger sister of Bollywood star Kajol. Over the years, she has worked in Hindi cinema and reality television, building a public identity beyond her family connections. With this latest post, Tanishaa has entered a contentious discussion about patriotism, political criticism and the influence of Western perspectives on Indian public life. Her strong wording is likely to invite differing reactions, particularly from those who see criticism of the government as a democratic responsibility and those who believe national progress deserves greater recognition. Ultimately, her message calls for a more considered public conversation, even as the language she used makes clear how strongly she feels about the issue.
